August 31

 

Day two of kindergarten, he came home and slept for four hours.  I think all that fun wore him out. 

August 30

   

Today was Shaylin's first day of 5th grade and Sawyer's first day of kindergarten.  This will be the only year that they will ever go to the same school, and they know it's special. 

This morning, I explained to Sawyer that some times mommies cry when their children go to kindergarten, but it's not because kindergarten is scary or sad.  He interrupted and said, "I know Mom.  It's just because you're watching me leave you."  Then I bawled.

They both came home happy and excited.

August 29

 

This is what my back door looks like right now - new shoes, new paper, and new book bags stuffed full of sharp pencils and clean erasers.  The kids are excited for tomorrow!  

I've ironed clothes, and washed lunch boxes, and everyone has received their father's blessing.  I think I'm ready to have four kids in school.  Here we go.

August 28

Today we drove on to Durango.  We slid, and jumped, and hiked and played all day.  It was lovely.

 

 

 

 

 

 

August 27

We took a little trip to Ouray today.  It's the most charming little town I've ever seen.  We hiked to a waterfall and swam in the city pools, which are all heated by natural hot springs.  We had fun.

Skyler fell asleep while tending Shaylin and Sawyer.  Big mistake.

August 25

 

This has been an interesting week.  Skyler and Macey are back in school, but these two still have another week of summer.  They've been darling together.  It's fun to watch them combine their interests.  They play school, where they learn to fight alligators.  They draw pictures, then turn them into swords.  And they play wizards, who have pet dragons.  They're cute.

August 24

 

This is Skyler's new hobby.  He buys small appliances from the Thrift Store and then converts them into fighting robots.  I'm trying to be supportive, but all of my kitchen knives are disappearing and he just asked me how much a flame thrower costs.  Oh dear.

August 23

 

Skyler started 7th grade today.  The elementary schools don't start until next week, so it was pretty quiet this morning when he left for school.  He was feeling quite ripped off, but I think he's secretly excited to go back to middle school.  

I'm going to miss him.  He makes me happy.

August 22

  

Today is the last day of summer for some members of our family.  (Skyler and Macey start school tomorrow.)  So we're frantically marking things off our list.   

We've had a fun summer.
