He's 12. That's right, 12 years old. I am the mother of a 12 year-old. I'm not comfortable with this. He's so old! It's weird that I'm not. :)
I got up at 5:00 AM to decorate the house for this boy. True test of my love. We had a fancy Eggo breakfast and opened his gifts before he left for school at 7:00.
It was a different birthday this year. No party. No huge gifts. Just a lot of trust.
We told Skyler that he was going to get a big surprise gift the day after his birthday. We told him that he would love it. He trusted us. No questions asked.
Sooooo, the next day we showed up at his school at lunch time to check him out. He was thoroughly confused. We took him out to the parking lot and handed him a present. Then he got interested. He opened up a big, goofy Disney hat. He looked at us like we were seriously insane.
Then he read the note, "You have to wear this every day while you're at Disneyland." He said, "When am I going to Disneyland?!?" Jason answered, "Right NOW. Get in the truck."
Skyler was speechless. Then he started sputtering, "Did you pack my stuff? Did you check me out of school? Really? Will you feed my hamster? Is this for real?" Jason explained that they were going to Disneyland - just the two of them - for four days. Then Skyler freaked out. He was so excited, he was close to tears.
It was one of my favorite moments of my life so far. It was just priceless.
