Family Reunion

We went to a big family reunion in Utah last weekend.  We stayed in a huge ranch house up in the mountains.  We had a great time.  We talked, laughed, and played together.

  

We cooked and ate enormous amounts of food.

  

We visited a little museum in Fairview.

 

The kids all played, canoed and fished together.  The moms made hair bows, the dads shot rifles and the grandmas brought activities for the kids.

  

It was so fun to be surrounded by wonderful people who love us.

Labor Day

We took Labor Day literally last week and worked the whole day.  We picked all the peaches off of our poor peach trees.  Many of their branches were breaking.  (Next year, we're going to learn more about trimming.)

Then we watched movies and canned peaches ALL DAY LONG.  Everyone helped.  It was a lot of fun.  After a few hours we told the kids that they could go and play, but they kept wandering back into the kitchen and helping out.

 

 

I remember President Hinckley once saying that when he was growing up it was hard to tell the difference between when his family was working together, and when they were playing together.  That's how I felt.  It was nice.

Plus we put up 60 quarts of yummy peaches.  Lots of them have small bites taken out of them, but I don't even care.

I took pictures of my friend's sweet baby last week.  I don't know what I'm doing, but with a baby that cute, how badly could I screw up?  Isn't she darling?

    

Durango

For Shaylin and Sawyer's last weekend of summer, they chose to go play in Durango.  We got half day passes at the Mountain Resort, so we were able to ride the Alpine Slide about 20 times - which I thought was 18 times too many, but the kids couldn't get enough.  We jumped on the bungee tramp, rock climbed and window shopped.  It was a great weekend!

  

  

  

First Days of School

My MIDDLE SCHOOLER!   Ahhhh!   I was a teary mess all morning, but Skyler was excited and confident.  He loves having a locker.   He loves having seven different classes.  And he especially loves his program.  

Skyler got into the 21st Century Program at his middle school.  He's in heaven.  All of his work will be done on his own laptop.  They read ebooks, do power point presentations, learn how to do research online and email their teachers all their work.  Skyler is so happy.  This is huge for us.  My son, who has never liked school, is really really happy.  

When Shaylin got to school, she ran up and hugged the fence.  I heard her say quietly, "Oh, I've missed you!".  She just loves school - the work, the supplies, the teachers, and most of all her friends.  She's so happy.

Sawyer started at a new preschool this year.  Some friends of ours have taken it over, and we're giving it a shot.  It looks fun.  Sawyer is most excited because one of his teachers is a boy and because he gets to eat lunch at school (right before I pick him up).  Fun stuff.
