More Moab

On Saturday, we hiked Arches.  It was beautiful!  And aren't we cute hikers?

  

  

 

After Arches, we went and played on a HUGE sand hill.  Check out these hilarious pictures.

 

 

These kids had sand everywhere - and I mean EVERYWHERE.  But they had a blast. 

Moab

This weekend we met my family in Moab.  We had so much fun!  On Friday, we played at the park, swam and took in the Classic Cars Show.    

 

We also played a very serious game of baseball.

     

Then we celebrated Sawyer's fifth birthday.  (I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S FIVE!!!)  He was so excited to get a remote-controlled truck, a Nintendo DS and a motorcycle cake.  But nothing beat the cool scooter that Grandma and Grandpa gave him.  He's been riding and smiling ever since.

 

I'll post about Saturday later.  You're going to laugh.

Chicks

The kids got baby chicks for Easter.  We inherited a really nice chicken coop when we bought this house, so the kids have been asking for chickens for three years.  It's taken me that long to get up the nerve to become a chicken owner.  

The kids each carefully chose their chick and lovingly named it.  Here are their names:

Macey's - Chicky Bird (yes, she made that up herself)

Sawyer's - Chicken Little

Shaylin's - Buttercup

Skyler's - Artemis Fowl (his favorite book)

We also got a rooster that I named Mr. Rooster.  I know, really creative.

These chicks are too cute.  Look how they sleep.  I'd be a good chicken.  

The kids love these little guys and hold them all the time.  I know that they'll grow up to be ugly chickens, but right now, they're adorable.

Sunday

Happy Easter!

 

  

Saturday

On Saturday the Easter Bunny came.  He was busy.  Hiding baskets, candy and eggs for 13 kids is tough.  Our whole house was FULL of sugar - so were the 13 kids.  

  

  

Afterwards we took the little ones swimming while the big ones played paint ball for 5 HOURS.  We came home wet, and the big ones came home completely covered in bruises and smiling from ear to ear.

Friday

On Friday we all went to Mesa Verde.  Skyler has had THREE social studies units on Mesa Verde.  He knows way more about Mesa Verde than he wants to.  He was answering everyone's questions about the ruins and the ancient Indians that lived there.  Even the Park Rangers asked him questions.  

 

 

Then we came home and rode four wheelers and played.

 

Thursday

Our relatives came and visited us for Easter weekend.  We had a a great time.  On Thursday, we went out to dinner and then came home and dyed eggs.  There were 13 kids.  Lots of eggs.  Lots of fun.

 

  

Washington DC

We went to Washington DC for Spring Break.  We had so much fun!  The first day we walked around The Mall and saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Veteran's Memorial and the National Capitol.  The cherry trees were in bloom, and it was beautiful!

  

The second day, we went to the Smithsonian Zoo.  It was awesome.  Our favorite animals were the panda bears and the new baby gorilla.  Can you see her mom holding her down there?  

        

The third day we went to the Spy Museum.  We had to assume a secret identity and carry out missions.  Skyler and Shaylin could have stayed there all day!  

 

More Washington DC

The fourth day, we went to the National Archives and saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  It was amazing.  When I saw the words "We the People..." on that old document, I couldn't help but start crying. 

      

 

Then we went to the Smithsonian Museum of Air and Space.  That was a big hit.  The kids loved seeing the very first planes and riding in flight simulators.

  

 

On the fifth day, we were pooped!  We just played at our hotel and went to Toys R Us and Chuck E. Cheese's.  This, of course, was the kid's favorite day.  

 

On our last day, we went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the White House.  The kids loved the museum because it was like the one in the movie, Night at the Museum.  I loved it because I got to spend the day with my college roommate, Katie (who just happens to be Jason's cousin - but she loves me more).

 

 

The kids were quite disappointed that they didn't run into President Obama, but we did see his helicopter land on the White House lawn.  Very exciting.

 

It was a great trip!
